LAMPSHADES GET A NEW LEASE ON LIFE! AND PRAYER NEEDED!

My lamp shades were looking a bit dingy and
dated as the holiday season approached but
new lampshades were NOT in the holiday budget!

They're sizable and not available on a shelf in
the nearest Target or Lowe's. Which means going
to a lamp shop where I found prices starting at
$150 per shade (she said making a choking sound).

So I resorted to a fast and cheap inexpensive
trick I've used in the past to give new life to old
lampshades.

I went to the dollar store and purchased 4 or 5 rolls
of white tulle on the spool (hey that rhymes) from
their little wedding department, pulled out my
wide ribbons and my vintage brooch collection.

I tied the end of the tulle to one of the crossbars at the top and
started winding and gathering the tulle a bit as I went, making
sure I overlapped the edges of the tulle with each vertical trip around
the shade.

I had a wide cream satin ribbon and a slightly narrower
dark brown satin ribbon in my stash that I layered and
brought around the shade and pinned with a very
sparkly blingy vintage brooch.

The result was quite lovely and received several
compliments over the holidays.

So if you need a quick fix for your shades try
my dollar store makeover... you'll be surprised at
the years it takes off of them and the money it
leaves in your pocket!!(for other spending LOL)

Love and blessings to all of you my friends!

Sherry

Oh dearest, sooooo sorry to hear of this dear soul with the brain cancer. Oh my, life is fleeting and precious. AND THIS LAMPSHADE IS PERFECT!!!!! WOW did you transform this one! I did the same thing with a terrible shade. I just simply put a child's ballet tutu over it and VOILÀ!!!

THANK YOU DEAREST FOR YOUR VISIT TODAY!!! Yes, Rabbit Hill is looking very smart these days with our new addition. We are enjoying every moment in it and it has given us more space to entertain. So good to hear that you are enjoying the comforts of Golden Pond and creating and resting. GOD HAD BLESSED YOU SO MY DEAREST!! Que le Seigneur Jésus t'accorde l'amour, la paix et la foi afin de lui donner la gloire pour toujours!!!!!!! JE T'EMBRASSE, Anita

This changed up your shade tremendously and you did it economically, as well. I know how much shades are- we had a rep who carried a line for many years, but he hasn't been around for a while. I need new shades for my Stieffel lamps and they are custom, as well. They'll stay in the closet til I find a new source, I guess. Hope all is well w/you and Wes. :-) Sue

LOVE your light shade makeover. It is so pretty. And what a marvellous idea to use the tulle. I have an old lamp whose shade is 'dated', it's from the 80's and not really nice at all. I didn't know what to do with but I think I might try the tulle idea. Thanks heaps.

I am so impressed by your lampshade makeover that I am going to try one myself. I have a couple with some really sad shades. They are in the bedroom so no one but me sees them. Thanks for sharing the DIY directions. I will post pictures when I get mine done. You need to put yours on Pinterest. Great Idea!

Hi, Sherry girl...I was sooo glad to hear from you.

Your lamp shade just about knocked me off my feet. It is beautiful. What a great job...I have a shade that needs this done so I am going to try. I am so craftyless, no telling what mine look like, tho. :))

I will add your friend to my blanket prayer of all Blogland that needs them.
I can't always remember names, but when I pray, GOD knows who I am praying for. HE is so wonderful...

Oh Sherry, that is absolutely phenomenal the way you gave new life to those lampshades, they look so gorgeous! I never would have thought of doing that. Just goes to show one doesn't have to spend a fortune. Isn't it ridiculous what they ask for lampshades in those stores? Hate to see what they ask for the lamps themselves! lol You are a true inspiration to me and I love you to bits:-) xoxo

Hi Sherry, This idea is fabulous you very talented lady. I have those spools of tulle in my stash from the dollar store all the time. They are great for everything and now lampshade updates too. You are amazing my friend. Love the ribbon with the bit of bling too. My gosh I love this~~~~~~~ I will be looking around to see what shades I can redo.

Have a great weekend my friend.
Love bunches, Celestina Marie
